A cross-Iowa collaboration,
A world premiere,
A riotous Shakespeare history,
A wild exploration of the American ethos.
We kick things off with THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THOMAS JEFFERSON, CHARLES DICKENS AND COUNT LEO TOLSTOY: DISCORD, Scott Carter's existential comedy about three geniuses trapped in the afterlife. Featuring Tim Budd, Joshua Fryvecind, and Matthew James. Jan 25 - Feb 10, with Anna Barker leading post-show talkbacks 1/26 and 2/9!
Riverside will then collaborate with one of Iowa's most vibrant organizations, Pyramid Theatre Company in Des Moines. Their team will join us at Gilbert Street for August Wilson's HOW I LEARNED WHAT I LEARNED. Featuring Aaron Smith, and directed by Pyramid Artistic Director Tiffany Johnson. Feb 22 - March 10.
And coming in March, our "Surprise Play"... the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of APPLE SEASON by E.M. Lewis. A striking drama about a woman who must choose whether to preserve her tangled past -- or burn it to the ground. March 29 - April 20.
AND... FREE SHAKESPEARE IS RETURNING!
HENRY IV PART 1 will arrive on the Festival Stage, June 14-23. Action, comedy, and history collide as Falstaff and King Henry vie for the destiny of Prince Hal, while the kingdom wards off an insurrection.
We'll close out the summer with MEN ON BOATS by Jaclyn Backhaus. A wild and woke retelling of the 1869 journey to map unknown reaches of the new American west. Featuring a cast of TEN! Directed by Angie Toomsen. July 5-28 at Gilbert Street.
